Putting a Name to a Mystery Diagnosis: Habba Syndrome

In 2000, Dr. Habba identified a new medical syndrome published in The American Journal of Gastroenterology. This condition, known as the “Habba Syndrome,” relates chronic diarrhea to gall bladder dysfunction pertaining to the bile acids. It has been widely applied and featured nationally and internationally on the Discovery Health Network and in standardized medical reference. He also pioneered the concept that irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) was a collection of different conditions rather than a true single diagnosis. This concept was first published in 2011 in the Medical Hypotheses Journal and then published again 2012 in the Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology.

WHY DR. HABBA STANDS OUT

Dr. Habba believes that “IBS” is an umbrella term that most other gastroenterologists use to refer to myriad conditions when a physician simply does not know the true cause. In fact, Dr. Habba’s study published in Medical Hypotheses concluded that 98% of patients who had been diagnosed with IBS actually suffer from another ailment. Unique in his approach to the practice of medicine, he believes it is better to investigate thoroughly in order to identify the definitive cause of a patient’s condition. This, in turn, allows Dr. Habba, who believes in treating the cause of the problem, not merely the symptom, treat the patient appropriately and most effectively so that they feel relief faster.

Dr. Habba is best known for his work on the condition named after him, Habba Syndrome. The symptoms can be troubling for patients and interfere with their daily lives. Treatment by a qualified and experienced physician can allow a patient’s conditions to improve in a matter of days, meaningfully improving their quality of life. Unfortunately, too many patients simply accept their gastrointestinal problems as just a part of life. Dr. Habba knows that this does not need to be the case and is keenly focused on improving their quality of life.
